September 1, 2019 The Honour of a Hungrier Humillity by Rev Matthew Fillier Welcome to BUC - an affirming, justice seeking , theologically progressive community. Whether this is your spiritual home or it's your first taking part , we wish you peace as we share the journey of faith.
On August 22nd, Raizel Robin who reports for the Walrus magazine, updated her expo entitled " How Do You Save Four Million Canadians From Hunger? Empty refrigerators, skipped meals, and famished kids are all signs of a broken economy. To fix it we need to start thiniking of food as a human right."
"With nearly 20 percent of its population affected, Halifax has the highest rate of food insecurity among Canadians."
As we prepare to get into the season of back to work, back to school, back to basics - here are some scriptual staples that we might stew together at Jesus' "banquet" in Luke's gospel today:
"The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor." Proverbs 22:9
" A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes will be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25
" I know the God secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy." Psalm 140:12
How can we bulid a bigger table to feed the famished with the faithful food God has given here at BUC? We can make a difference!
