Magnificent Scuffling: The First Irish Collar and Elbow Matches in Over 100 Years

Magnificent Scuffling: The First Irish Collar and Elbow Matches in Over 100 Years On 3rd August 2019, at the BJJ Globetrotters Summer Camp in Heidelberg, Germany, we held a training session in the old Irish grappling style of Collar and Elbow. Followed by the first Collar and Elbow matches in over a century. Five BJJ black belts, two Judo black belts, and one Luta Livre black belt all threw down and tried their hands at a style that, during the 17th-19th centuries, easily held the title of the most popular sport in Ireland.

Long story short: take the eponymous collar and elbow grips on your opponent's jacket, take them down, and pin them for 3 seconds to win.

PS: Video unfortunately gets a bit out of focus every now and then, but let's just consider that a homage to 19th century camera technology.
