Pompeo: We have obligation to fight anti-Semitism

Pompeo: We have obligation to fight anti-Semitism (25 Mar 2019) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says we have an obligation to fight anti-Semitism.

"Every decent human being has the responsibility to fight anti-semitism, it's an affront to religious liberty," said Pompeo.

"It attacks what it means to be Jewish, ethnically and religiously. But Americans, Americans have a special responsibility combat this scourge, because religious freedom sits at the core of our founding it's in our Bill of Rights, as our very first freedom. It's the essential freedom that all others that we enjoy here in America are built."

Pompeo's comments came during a speech during AIPAC, American Israel Public Affairs Committee POlicy Conference in Washington on Monday.

Pompeo also took a swipe at politicians using anti-semitic words during their speeches.

"It's supported by certain members of Congress, I suspect none of whom are here tonight," said Pompeo.

"Criticizing Israel's policies is an acceptable thing to do, in a democracy it is what we do, but criticizing the very right to exist of Israel is not acceptable."
